RWC-NAMCO Sports Arbitration Mooting Competition 2023 (SAMCO) is the brainchild of Richard Wee of Messrs Richard Wee Chambers (RWC), the leading law firm in Sports Law in Malaysia. Namco Management LLP (NAMCO), being a veteran and an organisation with vast experience in organising and managing mooting competitions, is honoured to be collaborating with RWC for SAMCO 2023.
As the name suggests, SAMCO 2023 is a sports arbitration-based mooting competition sets to expose law students to the areas of sports law and real-life experience of conducting hearings before the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). Since sports arbitration possesses slightly peculiar and specific rules only meant for sports, SAMCO 2023 aims to provide a platform for law students to acquire a better understanding of dispute resolution and issues in the sports world.
Other than that and similar to any other mooting competition, SAMCO 2023 will be a great opportunity for law students to equip themselves with advocacy and research skills with meticulous applications of the law and critical thinking before they venture into the real world towards their desired career.
SAMCO 2023 will be opened at the international level and we welcome mooters from around the world to participate in this inaugural sports arbitration mooting competition.
Richard Wee Chambers (RWC) is a boutique law firm founded by Richard Wee who is well-known for his active role in the development of Sports Law in Malaysia. Richard Wee and his team have been recognised and awarded the Asian Legal Business Award for “Sports Law Firm of the Year” for three (3) consecutive years since 2018.
RWC aims to further develop and create awareness for Sports Law in Malaysia amongst students, fellow practitioners and most importantly all stakeholders in the sports industry. RWC works with a number of stakeholders in the industry which include the Ministry of Youth and Sports, sports federation, sports bodies, sports associations and athletes.
Apart from that, RWC has been actively involved in the efforts of nurturing young talents by participating as guest speakers at talks as well as judging mooting competitions. This year, RWC is again pushing the boundaries even further by collaborating with Namco Management LLP to introduce and host SAMCO 2023.
